EXCLUSIVE SOCIAL CLUB VIDEO ↓Sometimes a bourbon doesn't need to do anything particularly unusual to be good. It just needs to deliver on what you expect from a quality bottle.
At 10 years old, just over 100 proof, and $80, the 2026 Penelope Estate Collection Private Select checks quite a few boxes. But $80 is an interesting price point these days. Competition is plenty, and an age statement alone isn't enough to make a bottle worth buying.
Penelope has also been a mixed bag for us over the years. Some releases have impressed us more than others, particularly when it comes to the brand's finished bourbons.
So, does this more traditional, 10-year-old release give you a reason to pay closer attention to Penelope?
The Whiskey Behind the Bottle
Penelope's Estate Collection sits toward the top of the brand's lineup, showcasing older, more carefully selected whiskey stocks. The 2026 Private Select is a blend of 10-year-old straight bourbons sourced from Indiana and Kentucky.
It's one of four releases in this year's Estate Collection, and while Private Select retains the same age statement as the 2025 edition, the barrels and blending can change from year to year. Enjoying one release doesn't necessarily mean you'll have the same experience with the next.
The mash bill is also worth noting. With 20% rye and just 1% wheat alongside the corn and malted barley, this is a four-grain bourbon with a relatively substantial rye component.
What makes this release particularly interesting to us is that Penelope isn't relying on secondary barrel finishing to create something different. The whiskey has to stand on its own, and at $80, we reasonably expect it to.
