Bardstown Bourbon Co. Cascadia Garryana Oak Barrel Finish is the kind of release that reminds you why Bardstown leans into experimentation. Distillery-only, bottled at 107.5 proof, and built around a unique finishing process, this is not your everyday bourbon, and it doesn’t try to be.

This release blends 9–10-year bourbons, primarily Kentucky-sourced, with a portion from MGP, bringing together multiple mash bills into a single, layered profile. That blend alone gives it a solid foundation before the finishing process takes things in a different direction.

At around $100 for a 375ml bottle, it’s positioned as a premium, limited experience. And once you get into the glass, it quickly becomes clear why.

A Different Kind of Oak

On the shelf, Bardstown keeps things clean and modern, but this bottle is really about what’s inside. The Garryana oak finish shifts the profile in a way that feels immediately noticeable, and honestly, a little unexpected.

Garryana oak, native to the Pacific Northwest, is rare and known for its tighter grain and more savory influence compared to traditional American oak. It’s not commonly used in bourbon, but it’s gained attention through producers like Westland Distillery, who have built entire expressions around it. That should tell you something; this wood brings its own identity.

This isn’t your typical charred American oak sweetness. It leans more savory, more earthy, and more layered. There’s a richness here that feels almost culinary, like something you’d pair with food rather than just sip on its own.

It’s a reminder that wood matters. And in this case, it completely changes the conversation.
