VIDEO REVIEW COMING SOON ↓Bardstown Bourbon Company has spent years teaching us to recognize its Discovery releases by number. For 2026, the numbers are gone.
In their place is Bardstown Bourbon 2026 Discovery, the beginning of a new annual identity for one of the distillery’s most recognizable releases.
The name may be simpler, but the whiskey certainly is not.
This edition combines 7, 10, and 11-year-old bourbons from Indiana and Kentucky before resting the finished blend for four months in custom Garryana oak barrels from Oregon.
The result is loaded with baked apple, cherry, burnt sugar, baking spice, and toasted oak, with enough unusual wood influence to separate it from previous Discovery releases without losing what made the series interesting in the first place. A lot is happening here, but that is kind of the point.
The Whiskey Behind the Bottle
Bardstown Bourbon Company built the Discovery Series around the idea that blending can be every bit as important as distillation.
Rather than showcasing one source, age, or mash bill, Discovery brings together mature whiskeys with different characteristics and asks the blending team to turn those individual components into something better as a whole. For 2026, Bardstown is changing both the name and the approach.
The blend begins with three bourbons: 55% 10-year-old Indiana bourbon, 25% 11-year-old Kentucky bourbon, and 20% 7-year-old Kentucky bourbon. Then things get more interesting.
Bardstown rested the completed blend for four months in hand-harvested Garryana oak barrels from Oregon. Oregon Barrel Works custom-made each barrel and hand-toasted it for three hours to draw additional spice and complexity from the wood. Bardstown also intentionally aged the whiskey through the summer for greater extraction before gradually proofing it down for bottling.
Garryana, also known as Oregon white oak, can bring a noticeably different spice and oak profile than the American white oak traditionally used for bourbon barrels.
Bardstown has experimented with the wood before, but using it here gives Garryana a much larger role without allowing it to completely take over the blend.
The 2026 release also continues Bardstown Bourbon Company’s redesigned packaging. The bright white label creates strong contrast against the whiskey, while original artwork by Margaret Archambault runs vertically behind the primary label, bringing warmth and personality to the package.
The artwork is what really brings this bottle together. It gives the cleaner new Bardstown system something more expressive and makes this one of our favorite executions of the redesign so far.
Tasting Notes
Aroma
Fresh apple, cherry, vanilla cream, and burnt sugar lead the nose. Nutmeg, clove, and baking spice develop beneath, followed by seasoned, lightly toasted oak.
It has a definite baked-fruit quality, almost like apple pie with vanilla ice cream and caramel.
Taste
Crisp apple and dried cherry arrive first, followed by caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and toasted sugar. The Garryana oak shows itself through added spice and seasoned wood, while the fruit remains present throughout the palate.
Each sip reveals another layer without becoming overly heavy or syrupy. It is bright, warm, fruity, and extremely flavorful.
Finish
The finish is long and warming, with cinnamon, baking spice, toasted oak, caramel, and lingering fruit.
The Garryana influence becomes more noticeable toward the end, adding another layer of spice and wood while allowing the sweeter bourbon notes to remain intact.
Artfully Bourbon Rating
8.5 / 10 - Very Good
Discovery releases come with high expectations, and the 2026 edition gives us plenty to like. The combination of mature bourbon and Garryana oak creates a layered profile built around apple, cherry, burnt sugar, baking spice, and seasoned oak.
A lot is happening, but the blend never feels like experimentation for its own sake.
The Garryana finish is particularly interesting. It adds another dimension without burying the bourbon underneath it, which is not always easy when working with a more distinctive finishing wood.
Is this our favorite Discovery release ever? Maybe not. But it is another very good whiskey from a series that remains one of Bardstown Bourbon Company’s most interesting showcases.

Buy
At $140, Bardstown Bourbon 2026 Discovery is firmly in premium whiskey territory.
Fortunately, it offers enough to justify the price. You are getting mature 7, 10, and 11-year-old bourbon, a thoughtfully constructed blend, 112.8 proof, and an unusual Garryana finishing process that creates a profile you are unlikely to find in many other bottles.
Fans of previous Discovery releases should absolutely have this one on their radar. It is familiar enough to still feel like Discovery, but the Garryana oak gives the 2026 edition its own identity.
And if your preferred whiskey season involves cool weather, baked fruit, cinnamon, caramel, and toasted oak, this one is going to make a lot of sense once fall gets here. We would happily buy another bottle.
