Artfully Bourbon / November 2, 2026One of American whiskey's most influential companies has a new corporate identity, but the MGP name isn't disappearing from the whiskey world.
MGP Ingredients is officially Sempreon, Inc.
The Atchison, Kansas-based company completed its corporate rebrand on November 2, adopting the new name, launching Sempreon.com, and changing its Nasdaq stock ticker from MGPI to CASK.
The move brings its branded spirits, distilling operations, and specialty ingredients businesses under one corporate identity.
But for whiskey enthusiasts, there's an important distinction: MGP Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, is keeping its name.
What's Changing and What's Staying the Same?
The rebrand was first announced on October 15 and is now officially in effect. Sempreon will operate across three businesses:
Branded Spirits: The portfolio formerly known as Luxco, including Penelope, Yellowstone, Rebel, Remus, Ezra Brooks, and Blood Oath.
Distilling Solutions: The company's whiskey production, aging, blending, and other distilling services.
Ingredient Solutions: Specialty proteins, starches, and other ingredients supplied to food manufacturers.
While the corporate name is changing, the historic MGP Distillery remains part of the company's Distilling Solutions business.
That's significant considering MGP's place in American whiskey. The Lawrenceburg facility has supplied whiskey to more than 1,000 American whiskey customers since 2012, helping build brands both large and small.
For consumers, the announcement doesn't signal a change to the whiskey itself. No recipe or production changes were announced as part of the rebrand.
Why the Change Now?
MGP has grown into a much broader business than its original name might suggest.
Beyond producing whiskey for other brands, the company has built a substantial portfolio of its own spirits through acquisitions and brand development. The new Sempreon identity is intended to better represent these businesses as a group.
The timing is also notable. In its third-quarter earnings report released October 28, the company reported sales of $117.9 million, down 10% from the previous year. Distilling Solutions sales declined 29%, reflecting continued pressure from excess whiskey inventories across the industry.
Meanwhile, Penelope Bourbon sales increased 12%, showing strength in one of the company's newer whiskey brands.
The name change won't solve those market challenges, but it gives the company a new identity as it works through them.
The AB take
For whiskey drinkers, MGP means something. Especially those of us who appreciate a good rye.
Lawrenceburg has played an enormous role in shaping American whiskey, including bottles from brands that many consumers might not even realize have ties to MGP.
From a business perspective, we understand the move. Sempreon gives the company an identity that extends beyond whiskey production and better reflects everything it owns and operates.
But MGP has real history and recognition in this industry. We're glad it's sticking around where it matters most.
We'll be more interested in what comes out of Lawrenceburg next than what name appears on the corporate letterhead.
