Every year, Maker’s Mark marches a selection of fully matured barrels into their hillside whiskey cellar, a chilled 50° sanctuary carved into limestone and capped with a green roof, to see what time can do when the temperature almost stands still. The result is the Cellar Aged series, one of the distillery’s boldest experiments and a showcase of age, subtlety, and restraint.
2025 marks the third release, and also the oldest Maker’s Mark ever bottled. It’s a blend of 11, 13, and 14-year-old wheated bourbon, an unprecedented age range for a brand known for consistency rather than extremity. Where the mainline Maker’s lives in warm rickhouses and deep summer swings, Cellar Aged lives in cool stillness. Less expansion. Less contraction. More patience.
This year’s release pushes deeper into what Cellar Aged can be, richer, older, and more expressive than anything Maker’s has produced to date.
A Bourbon Shaped by Stillness
Cellar Aged shows what happens when Maker’s trademark sweetness meets time in a chilled, quiet environment. Without the big seasonal swings, the whiskey develops concentration rather than heavy oak, giving this release a richer, more refined profile.
The first pass brings the familiar Maker’s chocolate-vanilla core, but deeper and more layered, marshmallow, cocoa, and soft cherry emerging as it opens. The palate follows the same arc: sweet upfront, then warm baking spice, then a more profound, candy-bar richness that feels uniquely Cellar Aged.
It’s balanced, expressive, and easily the most polished version of this experiment Maker’s has put out so far.
Tasting Notes
Aroma
Chocolate fudge, mocha, vanilla bean, and warm marshmallow. With air, the fruit opens. Chocolate-covered cherries, a touch of citrus, and subtle cinnamon sweetness. Rich and dessert-forward without turning syrupy.
Taste
Candy-bar territory in the best way. Caramel, toffee, fudgy chocolate, and that buttery, grain-kissed texture that evokes a 100 Grand bar. The spice builds with nutmeg, clove, and a pop of cinnamon. Never sharp, always integrated. The 112.9 proof drinks warm and confident, not hot.
Finish
Long and expressive. A sweet, oily richness coats the palate while baking spices stretch out like a slow fade on a good record. More cherry. More chocolate. A gentle warmth that feels earned, not imposed.

This is the richest, deepest Cellar Aged expression to date. The profile leans dessert-forward but never simple; it evolves from chocolate to spice to fruit as you sip. The proof is balanced. The finish is long. And the age brings maturity without bitterness or the heavy oak often found in double-digit wheaters.
