Wes Henderson Accused of Secret Recordings in Civil Lawsuit
Artfully Bourbon / October 2, 2026The Herald-Leader reports that family members allege hidden cameras recorded people without their knowledge, with some footage allegedly taken at the Kentucky Castle.
Wes Henderson, the Angel’s Envy co-founder behind True Story whiskey and owner of the Kentucky Castle, faces a civil lawsuit alleging that he secretly recorded family members and others without their knowledge.
According to an October 2 report by Janet Patton of the Lexington Herald-Leader, family members filed the lawsuit in June in Oldham County, Kentucky. They allege that people were secretly recorded at Henderson’s homes and that some footage was taken at the Kentucky Castle, a hotel, restaurant and wedding venue in Versailles.
The allegations have not been established as findings of fact. The newspaper reports that the case is sealed, limiting access to any response Henderson may have filed.
What to know
According to the newspaper’s account of the filing, family members discovered approximately 15 hidden cameras while staying at Henderson’s Florida home in June 2025. They allege that recordings captured private activities, including intimate encounters, and that another approximately 15 cameras were subsequently found at his Oldham County home.
The filing alleges that 40 people were recorded without their knowledge. It also alleges that some footage recovered from memory cards showed sexual activity at the Kentucky Castle. The plaintiffs say they turned cameras and recordings over to law enforcement, according to the report.
The newspaper describes allegations of invasion of privacy, voyeurism and possession or viewing of material depicting a minor in a sexual performance. These are allegations in a civil lawsuit; the report does not establish criminal charges or a conviction.
What remains unclear
The Herald-Leader says criminal charges apparently had not been filed. It could not identify which law enforcement agency held the reported evidence.
Henderson and an attorney who has represented him in other lawsuits did not respond to the newspaper’s requests for comment. The plaintiffs and their lawyers also did not respond. Artfully Bourbon has not independently reviewed the sealed filing or the alleged recordings.
The AB take
This is a serious story involving a recognizable bourbon figure and a hospitality destination. It deserves attention and precise reporting. Henderson’s industry connections explain its relevance to bourbon readers, but they do not establish involvement by the whiskey brands associated with him.
For now, the clearest takeaway is that a civil lawsuit alleges serious privacy violations. A court’s findings, any confirmed law enforcement action and Henderson’s response would materially change what readers know. None should be replaced by speculation.
