New Riff Unveils a 6-Year Bottled-in-Bond Wheated Bourbon

Artfully Bourbon / October 13, 2026

A suggested price of $60 makes the unusual wheat recipe worth a look, but buying a bottle requires access to the Whiskey Club and distillery pickup.

New Riff’s new wheated bourbon gives us two reasons to pay attention: what went into it and what the distillery is asking for it. The recipe uses three forms of wheat alongside corn, and the suggested price is $60 for a six-year-old Bottled-in-Bond bourbon.

The Newport, Kentucky, distillery announced the release on October 12. According to New Riff’s announcement, sales begin Friday, October 16, exclusively through its Whiskey Club, with distillery pickup only.

Why it matters

The interesting part is how New Riff approached the wheat. Master Distiller Brian Sprance says the team drew on its brewing experience and selected grains it already used in beer. New Riff describes the dark wheat as contributing roasted character and malty sweetness.

That gives drinkers a specific reason to be curious about this release beyond the word “wheated” on the label. The recipe makes wheat itself the experiment. Whether those choices make a meaningful difference in the glass is what we still need to taste.

The AB take

We think this release is really interesting and a good value on paper. Six years, Bottled-in-Bond and a distinctive recipe make $60 an appealing asking price. The experiment is interesting enough to draw attention, and the price makes it feel reasonable to try.

Access is the catch. If you can buy through the club and collect a bottle, it is worth pursuing. For everyone else, we would keep that $60 price in mind before paying a premium or making an expensive trip. The appeal is exploring something different at a sensible price.
