Jack Daniel’s is heading back to Coy Hill for its 2026 Single Barrel Special Release, but this time the whiskey inside the barrel is rye.

The new Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Coy Hill Rye is a 10-year-old Tennessee rye whiskey bottled at barrel proof between 128.7 and 148.5 proof. According to Jack Daniel’s, this is the first time rye whiskey matured in the Coy Hill barrelhouses has been released as a Single Barrel expression.

The whiskey was distilled in 2016 using Jack Daniel’s standard rye mash bill of 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley. After charcoal mellowing, it was filled into new charred American oak barrels and aged for ten years across Coy Hill Barrelhouses 1 through 13.

Coy Hill is the highest elevation point at the Jack Daniel Distillery, and the barrelhouses there have become closely associated with some of the brand’s highest-proof and most sought-after special releases.

Why it matters

Coy Hill has become home to some of Jack Daniel’s most talked-about releases, including the original 2021 Coy Hill High Proof and subsequent Small Batch expressions. Now the distillery is bringing its rye whiskey from this location into the Single Barrel lineup.

At ten years old and nearly 150 proof at the upper end, this is a serious rye whiskey. And at $90, the suggested price is particularly interesting compared with many other limited, age-stated releases.

Jack Daniel’s describes aromas of orchard fruit, honey and toasted oak, followed by citrus sweetness, light molasses, black tea and oak on the palate. The finish reportedly features sweeter rye notes and lingering barrel spice, with some variation between barrels.

The AB take

We’re big fans of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye. At around $75 on the shelf, it’s already one of the better values in high-proof rye whiskey.

So the question for us is pretty simple. Is ten years on Coy Hill enough to make this a better whiskey?

At $90, the premium isn't unreasonable. We're getting a 10-year age statement, a unique maturation location, and some seriously high proofs. But the standard Barrel Proof Rye has already set a pretty high bar.

We're excited to find out whether Coy Hill Rye clears it. And at just $15 more, we'd certainly be willing to take that chance.
