Garrison Brothers Turns Its Sherry-Finished Ranch Reserve Bourbons Up to Cask Strength

Artfully Bourbon / October 3, 2026

The October 17 release brings two sherry-cask options at $190 per bottle, with a portion reserved for retail distribution.

Some barrels earn their own bottle. That is the reasoning behind Garrison Brothers’ next Ranch Reserve release: Master Distiller Donnis Todd held back 27 PX and Oloroso barrels because, according to the distillery, their character warranted bottling individually at full proof.

In its September 15 announcement, Garrison Brothers says the PX Finished Cask Strength Single Barrel and Oloroso Finished Cask Strength Single Barrel releases debut October 17 at the distillery in Hye, Texas. They come from the same production lot as the two Ranch Reserve bourbons introduced in June.

What to know

  • Producer: Garrison Brothers
  • Whiskey: Ranch Reserve PX and Oloroso Finished Cask Strength Single Barrels
  • Age: 8 years total: 4 in new American oak, then 4 in sherry casks
  • Proof: PX 122–135.2 / Oloroso 124.6–136.7, depending on the barrel
  • Finish: First-fill Pedro Ximénez (PX) or Oloroso sherry casks
  • Announced price: $190 per bottle, sold separately
  • Release: Limited
  • Availability: October 17 distillery release, with remaining bottles allocated to select retail partners nationwide

The distillery reports approximately 3,000 bottles of each expression, with 984 of each available at the October event. The selection comprises 14 PX barrels and 13 Oloroso barrels. Each bottle identifies its barrel number and proof, and the company describes the whiskey as uncut, unfiltered and non-chill filtered.

Gates open at 8 a.m. for the distillery’s tailgate release event. Visitor information is available through Garrison Brothers.

Why it matters

Four years in sherry casks is a substantial part of this bourbon’s maturation. The cask type belongs alongside age and proof when deciding which bottle interests you.

The single-barrel format also makes the label especially useful. Buying “the PX” or “the Oloroso” does not identify the exact barrel or strength. A review of one selection should be read with that distinction in mind.

The AB take

At $190, this deserves careful consideration. We have not tasted these releases yet, but samples are on the way. If you're considering a bottle now, look for tasting impressions tied to the specific barrel, and confirm stock before you plan. Nationwide allocation doesn't guarantee a bottle will reach your local shelf.
